Can you train my dog to hike South Mountain off leash?
We can train the reliability. Whether the dog is off leash on the trail is up to the rules of the trail, and on the Phoenix preserve trails a leash is required, so the real goal is a dog that heels off leash reliably at home and holds a loose leash past everything on the mountain. Board & Train builds both, and we proof the recall under wildlife before the dog goes home.
Why is my dog worse at Pecos Park than anywhere else?
Because the dog park teaches dogs that other dogs are the most exciting thing in the world and that you are optional. A dog that has learned to blow off the recall there needs it rebuilt from the leash up, under controlled distraction first, then real dogs. That is standard Board & Train work, and the park becomes the final exam rather than the classroom.
How does the heat affect training in Ahwatukee?
Phoenix closes the South Mountain trails to dogs when the forecast reaches a hundred degrees, and the pavement burns paws well before that.
