Dog training for Gilbert, the puppy capital of the East Valley

Gilbert is about fifty minutes from the academy and it is families, families, families: young households in Power Ranch and Seville, the Heritage District on a Friday night, and Cosmo Dog Park with its lake full of retrievers. If any city in the Valley brings home more puppies per block, we have not found it.

01 · Training in Gilbert

What a Gilbert dog actually has to handle.

So most of our Gilbert work is Puppy Training and Board & Train: the foundation built right in the first months, or the reset for the adolescent dog who missed it. The drive makes Board & Train practical; Home Sessions reach Gilbert with a travel fee for the miles past twenty from Glendale.

Kids and puppies in the same house

A puppy that mouths, jumps and herds toddlers is a Gilbert household in month three. Bite inhibition, door manners and a place command the puppy trusts are core Puppy Training work and they save the next ten years.

Cosmo and the dog park culture

Cosmo Dog Park is famous for a reason, and it is also where a lot of Gilbert dogs learn bad habits: rushing every dog, ignoring every recall. A dog that comes back at Cosmo is a trained dog. We build that before the dog earns the park.

The Riparian Preserve and the greenbelts

The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, the Heritage Trail, the paths through Morrison Ranch and Agritopia. Loose leash past strollers, bikes and waterbirds is the everyday Gilbert standard.

02 · Where it has to hold

On your street, not just in your city.

Obedience is proofed where Gilbert dogs actually live and walk, so the results survive the first real distraction rather than the last quiet rep.

03 · Programs for Gilbert

Start the puppy right, or reset the teenager

Puppy Training is the Gilbert program: potty routine, crate confidence, sit, stay, come and place under distraction, and safe socialization for the puppy sharing a house with kids. Board & Train is the reset for the adolescent dog that missed the window, with off leash reliability and a handoff at pickup. Home Sessions reach Gilbert with a travel fee for the miles past twenty from Glendale, best for problems that live at your address.

When should a Gilbert puppy start training?

Eight weeks is not too early, and six months is when the window narrows. The habits set fast: where the puppy relieves itself, how it feels about the crate, whether sit, stay and come mean anything around a distraction. Puppy Training covers all of it plus bite inhibition and manners with kids. Book the free consult when you book the puppy.

Our one year old lab ignores us completely at Cosmo. Lost cause?

Not even close. A one year old with no recall at the dog park is a dog that has been rewarded for ignoring you a few hundred times, which is a training history, not a character flaw. Board & Train rebuilds the recall from the leash up, proofs it under other dogs and water, and hands it back to you with the handling to keep it. Then Cosmo becomes a test you pass.

Gilbert is a long drive from Glendale. How do home sessions work?

They carry a travel fee for the miles past twenty from Glendale, quoted before you book, and they make sense when the problem only exists at your house: door chaos, a specific fence line, a particular child. For general obedience and off leash goals, Board & Train is the better use of the distance: two drives, daily work in between, and lifetime group classes after.
