What a Surprise dog actually has to handle.
Our Surprise work splits cleanly in two. Young families in the new builds want a puppy that grows into a calm household dog around kids. Grand residents want a companion that walks politely past carts and other dogs and travels well. Both start with the same free consultation.
Bell Road is a stress test
Six lanes, strip retail, patios and parking lots from Grand Avenue to Loop 303. A dog that can heel through a Bell Road parking lot on a Saturday, ignore the carts and lie down outside a coffee shop is a dog that handles Surprise. We train it there on purpose.
Spring training at Surprise Stadium
Every March, Surprise Stadium fills with Royals and Rangers crowds, and the streets around it fill with strollers, coolers and other people's dogs. It is a perfect proofing ground for neutrality, and a terrible place for a dog that has never practiced it.
White Tank Mountain on the doorstep
White Tank Mountain Regional Park sits just west of the city: long trails, washes, javelina, and rattlesnakes in the warm months. A recall that holds when the dog is fifty yards ahead on a trail is the difference between a hiking partner and a liability.

Puppies in the new builds, calm dogs in Grand
Puppy Training is the Surprise staple: a household with young kids and a young dog gets the routine, the crate, the manners and the socialization done right the first time. Board & Train covers off leash goals and the harder behavior cases with one drop-off and one pickup. Home Sessions reach most of Surprise without a travel fee; the far west edge past Loop 303 is around the twenty mile line and we will quote it honestly.

How far is Surprise from the academy, and is there a travel fee?
About twenty five minutes: Bell Road east to I-17, or Loop 303 to Happy Valley Road. Home Sessions carry a travel fee beyond twenty miles from Glendale, and Marley Park, Sun City Grand and the Original Town Site are inside that. Addresses out past Loop 303 toward Asante can be right at the line, so we confirm before you book.
We are in Sun City Grand. Is your training too intense for an older dog and an older handler?
No. The methods are structured, not harsh, and the plan is written for the dog in front of us. For Grand residents the goals are usually a polite leash walk past carts and other dogs, a reliable settle at a restaurant or a friend's home, and a dog that travels well. Home Sessions coach you as the handler so the results survive after we leave.
Our puppy is fine at home but wild in public. Board and train or lessons?
For a young puppy, lessons first: Puppy Training builds the foundation with you handling, because a puppy's public manners are mostly a handler skill at that age. If the dog is past six months and the problem is real reactivity or zero recall, Board & Train gets there faster, and the handoff teaches you to keep it.
